How much good can be done in 24 hours? It’s a question at the core of Nevada’s Big Give. When a community of people come together for one day of philanthropy, the results can be (and have been) inspiring. But have we focused on that question a little too much?

24 hours of online giving. But what about the 364 days in between?

With only a couple of days until the 5th annual Nevada’s Big Give, many nonprofit organizations have already implemented some plan to thank the participants who donate. If you (like some of the PiP team) struggle with procrastination, it isn’t too late! Here are some important things to keep in mind.

This is an online event, which means it would be appropriate to give some form of online thanks! Tweet, tag, and share; stay active the day of the event. This is an important first step and timely way to participate in donor stewardship. But it’s only a first step.

The people who donate to your cause are a natural group of individuals to consider for further involvement. When you are looking for someone to volunteer, someone to advocate for your cause, or even a donor capable of making a larger gift, the people who have shown interest in supporting your mission have already been identified. Keep track of the donors who participate in Nevada’s Big Give. Put the other 364 days to use. Add them to a newsletter list, send them a mailing, invite them to your next event. Nevada’s Big Give is about uniting a community. Invite them to join your story for more than one page, once a year.

We’re wishing you the best results for Nevada’s Big Give, but we’re hoping that it turns into many more 24 hour periods of community involvement.
