And we have an organization geared to making these desires a reality: they’re called Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, and here are some of their numbers.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has encouraged the inherent potential in children by helping them to succeed. They provide mentors to youth throughout the Valley, creating meaningful connections between adult volunteers who become Bigs (not physically, thank heavens), and children who are now Littles. But it’s not just about making a match (because E-Harmony can do that); it’s about changing lives for the better…forever.
And it works! Children in the program are 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, and 52% less likely to skip school. They’re learning principles, forming relationships, and becoming more successful.
